should i buy Studio RTA A-Tower Corner Wood Computer Desk reviews

The A-Tower Computer Desk provides maximum working area within a limited space. Steel tube construction gives it long lasting durability; while multiple shelves and a slide-out keyboard tray give this all the functionality you need. Features: Space saving design fits corners with plenty of desktop workspace Steel frame construction for rigidity Floor levelers adjust to uneven surfaces Ships ready to assemble Specifications: Overall dimensions: 73.25"H x 47.75"W x 24.75"D Main work surface: 47.75"W x 23"D at 29.5"H from the Ground Slide out keyboard shelf: 31.5"W Monitor clearance from desktop to middle shelf : 21.75" 37" from the corner of the wall to the end of the desk Upper shelves: 35"W x 14.5"D Lower shelf: 34.5"W x 17.5"D I shopped all over for this type of Computer Desk. This is a Great Value for the desk here at Amazon. Several other stores wanted more for shipping than the cost of the item, which is non-sense. When I saw the price here at Amazon I knew I had found a bargain. I have had this same model of desk for several years. I bought this one for my son. The construction of this desk is excellent. It is very sturdy and saves a lot of space by being a tower desk. The wood parts are made of particle board covered with a Formica surface. The only improvement would be to have made the desk out of solid wood. This of course would have increased the cost 10 fold.
The legs are adjustable with screw out feet which allows one to level the desk easily. The pull out shelf for the keyboard works smoothly. It would help if a lock had been made on the pull out for the keyboard as there is a tendency for it to want to slide in. By pulling the shelf out all the way and drilling a small hole on each side of the shelf so a small pin or screw can be inserted it stops all motion of the slide out. If you have need to save a lot of space and want a very well made desk then this is the desk for you. By the way I found the instructions very easy to read and I put the desk together in less than an hour. A screwdriver and the alen wrench which comes with the desk is all that is needed to put it together. As usual Amazon is a money saver for quality stuff. This desk arrived with a total of eight missing parts. Customer service via telephone had me on hold for so long I gave up (tried calling several times throughout the day). Emailing customer service generated no response.

I ended up welding this thing together and fabricating my own parts to replace the missing ones.

I recommend this if you have extensive metal working skills and can handle frustration. Note the sarcasm. This desk is the right size for a home office. It's very easy to assemble and it's beautiful. I aboslutely recommend this desk for everyone. This is a great desk for the price. The color is cherry so if you're looking for something lighter, I would look elsewhere or contact the seller before purchasing to confirm. I wanted a desk that could hold everything, be able to write at it when I wanted AND not take up too much space in my guest room. The shipping was fast and damage free. this thing is great. you couldn't beat the price of this thing. went together without issues. i only wish the keyboard tray had a lock to keep it pulled out The corner dimension on the second image is misleading. When this unit is placed into a corner, the edge of the main desktop extends approximately 37.5" from the corner. The 24.75" dimension is of the desktop itself. In a re-read of the product description, I note it gives the corner-to-edge dimension of 37 inches.

I had planned to use this unit in a corner where I had 36" maximum space on one side. I thought I was safe with the 24.75" dimension in the diagram. Instead, the desk overhung a doorway, preventing a door from opening. I had to place the desk in a second, less desirable location.

Functionally, the desk is exactly what I needed. The PC tower, power strip and Comcast router fit on the bottom shelf. The top shelf holds the monitor and the next shelf up holds a Canon Pixma printer with paper in the paper feeder. Speakers are placed on either side of the printer. The topmost shelf holds spare printer paper and ink cartridges. This tower desk is exactly what I thought it would be. I almost went with a cheaper desk to save money but I really wanted this one. I am so glad I did not settle. Easy assembly and the look is perfect. I didn't really like putting the Studio RTA A-Tower Corner Wood Computer Desk with Hutch in Pewter and Cherry together, but it works great and fits into my small office corner. This desk assembles easily and is a great looking combination of wood and metal. It came in great shape and went up in less than half an hour. If you need to fit a computer in the corner of a room, but don't want the desk to dominate the room. I usually don't leave review, but this time I just felt to do so. The desk itself is very good construction and design, but the colors disclosed on the picture are wrong. It shows nice cherry wood with silver poles, but I received dark cherry wood with black poles that is completely off my room design. I tried to return the item, but the seller Cymax told me that this is the color and I can return it with paying shipping two ways and processing fee that comes up like 50% of the cost or I can donate the item. So, if you planning to buy this desk, watch for the color! Have had this for a good several months now and i love it. it's sturdy, and lots of space. I put my printer and external drive on the middle shelf, and other misc items like paper on top.

Only downside i'd see is that the desk edge is a bit 'sharp'? Not that it would cut you or anything, just isn't smooth.

I totally recommend this desk. Was easy to assemble, just pay attention to the directions and you'll be fine.2 factors of concern. The color, "cherry," is very dark, accurately shown in the customer photos uploaded here, not at all like the lighter, brighter color tones in the stock photos that show up all over the internet!!! If you are coordinating the furnishings in a room, don't go by the stock photo!

Also important, to me, is the desk construction with a hard, "sharp," edge. If you like to rest your forearm on the desk edge, you may find the desk edge to be very uncomfortable, leaving a dent in your skin. The sharp edge may present a genuine obstacle for an elderly or ill person with fragile skin that is prone to bruising and/or skin breakdown.

While it is possible to make do with a disappointing color, and possible to modify the desk edge for user comfort and safety, it would be best to know of these 2 factors prior to purchase.

A third factor of concern would be inadequate packaging for shipping.

Our package did arrive damaged, with significant damage on the end of the desk top piece. Unfortunately, there was inadequate styrofoam padding inside the box. The side that got damaged was where the heavy desk top was protected inside the box only by a thin piece of paper. That could be adequate for stacking packages on store shelves, but is not adequate protection for heavy boxes being shipped out individually. Especially when the afore-mentioned sharp edges are in there just waiting to cut through the piece of paper, and through the single layer of cardboard box!

Sauder's response was polite and caring. They sent out a replacement part ASAP, which was supposed to take 5 - 7 business days via FedEx ground, and we were instructed to just discard the damaged piece. That time frame set back the construction of our desk by 2 weeks. We had to reschedule "assembly day" and re-recruit the strong hands needed to put this together.

The "pros" on this desk have already been generously listed by other helpful reviewers, such as the tough, laminated top surfaces which will resist scratch damage for a long time to come.

I applaud Sauder for many things, such as good response to replacing the piece damaged in shipping, but I feel strongly that they need to do 3 things:
1) provide a stock photo that accurately represents color;
2) re-think the "sharp edge" method of construction, and
3) pad the inside of the box adequately for shipping. Purchased this desk a year ago to make the best use of a very limited amount of space. The cherry color is pretty deep. I kind of wish that I had been able to get it in a Teak color. Anyhow, the desk went together with pretty minimal effort. Really, it was average time and effort for a piece of furniture you assemble yourself. Construction is sturdy enough, although if you place a printer on the shelf (the same shelf as shown in the picture), you can get quite a bit of movement as the printer does its thing. Some people might want to anchor it to the wall for that reason. I like the space (plenty of room) and cords can be effectively hidden behind the vertical board running down the center. On a side note, most lighting is centered in the room and a corner desk (by design) will put your body between your work and lighting. I was able to mount a 21" florescent bar light under the printer shelf. It fits completely under the shelf without sticking out, gives great lighting, and practically looks like it came with the desk. They can't include everything and keep the cost down, but I would highly recommend the addition of a light.

One other thing: If you want to put items on the top shelves, you might consider placing them before you put the "fencing" up for the two shelves. I use a Canon Pixma printer and the fencing would have pushed the printer out too far. I never put the fencing on and honestly can't say that I ever notice it.

The color is not what is shown in the picture & it lost a star for that, was much darker, but was fine for us. Was easy to put together, and it's a great desk for a small space. Love all the compartments and cubby holes, and the drawer is a nice touch. Overall good quality product. Picked this desk also for the CPU storage being on the right side, many are on the left for some reason these days. We've had the desk for a while now & love it. the desk came and was fairly easy to put together, took me about 3.5hrs including hooking my PC back up and all the cables and whatnot. the quality of the desk is pretty good, its the cheap particle board design with wood grain finish, its a sturdy desk and is really good for the price, the ONLY flaw was that the shelf above the monitor did NOT have the wood grain finish. now was it in the box so it fell off b4 it was packaged. but still a good desk overall!! the product wae exceptional.. however you really have to be an engineer to assemble it..it took me over four hours but the end was worth it.The product shipped quickly and was even higher quality than I expected. The only minor issue was a little nick on the edge of the desk top that I believe happened during final delivery. Some wood glue fixed this pretty well. The assembly instructions were the highest quality I've ever seen and I am very pleased with the finished product. Would definitely buy Sauder furniture in this manner again. I am a 68 year old female and I put most of this together myself. My grandson helped and learned some things in the process. I needed him to help move it since it was very heavy. We love it and it fits just where I wanted it. I really love this desk. It took about 3 hours to put together, but it was worth it. It has a lot of room, I still have a couple of shelves that are empty. The wood is thicker so it's not flimsy. I bought this computer desk with hutch because of the compact size and shelf heights that can be adjusted. It was easy to put together and looks great as a result and the picture is true to its actual color, however, the wood is not that thick in some places so I just hope it holds together and the outer layer of finish doesn't peel away so easily as others I have had did. Very pleased. Desk is solid wood and has a beautiful finish. Fits perfectly in the space allowed in my office. This desk was very easy to assemble with very detailed instructions that were easy to follow. All parts were included. Took about three hours to put the desk together, but I took my time and stopped for a break twice. Once assembled the desk was very sturdy and the layout was functional. This was a Christmas present to my son's family to hold the new computer that we got them for Christmas. I have assembled many pieces of furniture similar to this, but this is at the top of my list for quality and ease of assembly. This is a really cute "first" desk for our daughter. It's not exactly small, but it's not huge, either. Perfect for what we needed. It's very sturdy, although it does take awhile to put together, so be patient. Shipping was lightening fast! It's a little darker than the one in the picture, but it has a nice look to it. It doesn't look like totally real wood by any means, but it has a very nice finish, and it's pretty, especially for the price. Overall, we are very pleased with this desk. The product is very heavy if you live in an apartment, not a good idea to buy it. The delivery man left it in the stairs of our apartment! I was so upset!

When I put it together one of the hole is broken it did NOT hold up to the weight, it fell on my feet. I got a huge cut! I ended up throwing it away because it is NOT safe and stable! I have wasted my money! What a big WASTE!

If you have kids or you are planning to move someday.....this is not a good product for you...the weight and the cabinet structural integrity is NOT worth it. Purchased the Sauder Orchard hills small wood computer desk with Hutch in oak and absolutely loved it. I used a professional to assemble it and it was just perfect for the space I intended for it. It added a complete student look to my son's room. He loved it too.

should i buy Sauder Computer Desk in Brushed Maple reviews

Sure, lots of office and home furnishing manufacturers can help you create an organized, comfortable and fashionable place to live. But Sauder provides a special kind of furniture that is practical and affordable, as well as attractive and enduring. As North America's leading producer of ready-to-assemble furniture, we offer more than 500 items that have won national design awards and generated thousands of letters of gratitude from satisfied consumers. Features:Slide-out keyboard, mouse shelf with metal runners and safety stopsStorage area behind door holds vertical CPU tower and has an adjustable shelfTwo drawers with metal runners and safety stops; file drawer holds letter or European size hanging filesDesk top grommet hole for electrical cord accessQuick and easy assembly with patented T-slot drawer assemblyBrushed Maple finishSpecifications:Dimensions: 29" H x 59.5" W x 23.5" D Weight: 131.773 lbs. When my daughter and I first opened up the box and saw all of the pieces, it looked overwhelming. We laid the pieces out on the floor and sat down and started putting it together. Everything fit almost perfectly. The sliding keyboard tray got stuck on the edge of the upper left side door. We adjusted the hinges according to the instructions and all was well.

This a great looking desk; the picture doesn't do it justice. It's constructed out of thick, dense particle board making it very sturdy. All we did was follow the instructions and take our time putting it together. It took us about 3-1/2 hours after all was said and done, but the end result was worth every minute.

The desk is a great value for the price. I checked other places selling the same one and the cost plus the shipping charges I paid was still less than their retail price without the added shipping costs.

I highly recommend this desk for anyone wanting a really nice looking, sturdy desk at a great priceThe desk box arrived in very good condition. I've never seen a company take so much care as to put bumpers around the box and wrap it in plastic. After taking all the pieces out of the box it looked like a big task, but was actually less stressful than furniture I've put together in the past. My wife and I sat down at about 9AM and finished just before noon. I was worried the wood would be cheap as stated in earlier reviews, but was surprised with the quality.

I've got a custom built PC as seen in the pictures I uploaded. The tower I'm using is an Antec 900 mid tower and it doesn't quite fit in the cabinet made for the tower. On top of my desk I have a 24 inch monitor and three satellite speakers set up with more space than I know what to do with. It's very easy to keep clean with the cord management system on the desk. Instead of tunneling wires in back of the desk there is a hole directly behind where the monitor sits, which leads to two medium sized holes drilled into the side of the desk where your left leg would sit. This is nice because it allows you to push the desk right up against the wall. I'm also very happy with the folder drawer. I purchased 25 hanging folders and they fit perfectly. You will be pleased with how this desk looks, just put it together and it looks fantastic! You might fool people into thinking you bought a premium wood finished office desk.

However, this desk is very shoddily made and difficult to assemble (far from impossible, but vague instructions are annoying at times). The drawers of the desk do not shut properly and are poorly aligned, I have to lift the top drawer to shut the bottom drawer! When I have time will get a drill and realign the top drawer so they fit. Even after careful attention to symmetry and alignment when building the desk, if you look closely almost everything (drawers, panels, boards, etc.) is misaligned.

The desk is very functional, the keyboard tray rolls out smoothly and there is tons of storage.

I wish they didn't put the cord hole in the middle of the desk since that is where you would want to put your monitor, I had to strategically place some books to be able to put my monitor in the middle and run cords through the cord hole. It is great they have cord holes in the left compartment; but my computer (ATX case) was too large, so you should only realistically hope to get a computer in there if it small. This desk is an excellent value. The materials are extremely solid and the design is surprisingly well thought out. Instructions were easy to follow and while it took some time to assemble, it was definitely worth it.

Only two reasons for not giving 5 stars is the color is quite a bit darker than I expected and the file drawer doesn't quite close 100%. I love the color and design of this desk. I placed it in my library with both the front and back away from the wall. The multitude of computer and electronic cords were nicely fished through a hole on top of desk and down under the desk hidden by the back board. I could still see the cords as they extended below the back board to the surge protector. So I purchased a beautiful ornate fireplace screen (also from Amazon.com) and velcroed it to the back of the desk. I love it! The desk box arrived in very good condition. I've never seen a company take so much care as to put bumpers around the box and wrap it in plastic. It's sturdy, went together with no issues (took just under 4 hours to put it together), conveniently delivered right to my door, and the price was very affordable. It's almost exactly what I wanted, and about $300 cheaper than another desk I considered in a furniture store. Very satisfied with this product. You will be pleased with how this desk looks, just put it together and it looks fantastic! You might fool people into thinking you bought a premium wood finished office desk.

should i buy Edge Water Computer Desk reviews

I bought this desk a month ago, but it also has the top part not shown in this photo. It is made of composite material and is not solid wood. Yet for the price it is very sturdy and not of the cheaper Saduer fame. It did take me a long time to put together. 3 hours for top part, and 4 hours for bottom. Being fastidious, I wanted to make sure it was assembled correctly.

Instructions are pretty good with only a little confusion on door slider placements. Other than that the engineering on this was superb. I couldn't believe how accurate every single hole that was pre-drilled was placed. I mean this is obviously a computer controlled drilling CNC machine that they spent a lot of time programming becuase everything was perfect!!!!

For the price you will not be able to buy a nicer, stronger, more good looking desk. Forget solid wood desks as they easily cost 4 to 5 times the amount.I bought this desk to use for a home office in which I work from home on a laptop. This desk is stylish and perfect for the room. It does take a while to put together 3+ hours, but it was well worth it. The top of the desk was slightly dented during shipping but other than that it came in good shape. All in all a good purchase for someone looking for a stylish desk without spending upwards of 600-800 dollars (I got it for 175 with free shipping). I was expecting a lower quality product; perhaps loose fiberboard with very rigid laminate shell. Instead I got a very dense fiberboard with very rigid laminate shell. It went together very well and is quite sturdy. The only real negatives: poor instructions (not super poor; I imagine online videos are quite useful.) One thing I disliked was having to nail the backing on; it just felt wrong. I think rotating clamps would have been a better idea (though I do understand that it is intended to give an illusion of a fully wood desk.) My desktop was slightly damaged during transit (nothing major) but when notified of this, Sauder sent a new one free of charge. I have to say that I am very, very impressed. I received my order fairly promptly. Unfortunately, several pieces were damaged during transit. The box wasn't in the greatest condition, so returning the desk was problematic. I reported the situation to the seller immediately and went through the trouble of providing pictures of the damage. I was assured I would receive replacement parts in a few days. When several days passed with no word from them, I became concerned and contacted them a second time. They told me the replacement parts would ship out from the manufacturer that evening and that I would receive an email with tracking information soon afterward. Haven't heard from them since. It's been nearly 2 weeks since I first contacted the seller. I finally broke down and assembled the desk yesterday because I got tired of walking around the pile of peices, and I need to be able to use my computer. The damage is clearly visible even from across the room (the black finish on the desk makes the gouges pop pretty dramatically), but at least I can use my computer now.

Personally, I didn't find it terribly difficult to assemble, though it took me a good hour and a half. The instructions certainly could've been more clear, but that seems to come with the territory of buying anything that requires assembly. If not for the damage, the desk would be great. I must say I DO NOT like this desk. The color looks horrible! If ur looking for something that looks black, dont buy this cause mine looks more brown. The reason I am giving it 3 stars is its VERY sturdy & looks high quality. Had good directions also that were easy to follow. As of this review, the few pictures on the listing are just too small to judge, especially when looking at comparisons.

Dimensions - if they're somewhere in this listing, I didn't see them.
I can't imagine why the weight is important but not the size of the desk.
Should have put something more in about the construction and materials too.Was not what we expected. Cheaply made - lots of scratches - and anticipate alot more so we had to go out and purchase a glass top to keep the desk from scratching. Put together was not bad once you got the hang of it. Paint job leaves alot to be desired. Pevioulsy owned a Sauder's desk that was a much better quality. Did not scratch and wore very well for 20 years. Should have repainted the old one in leiu of buying this one. This is a really nice looking, sturdy desk. Dont think you could get better unless you wanna spend $400 plus for solid wood in a furniture store (trust me we looked everywhere for a desk) The 1 and only reason i gave it 4 stars vs 5 is because it is time consuming to put together. Not thats it's difficult, just takes time. Looking at it now though I am very happy with the purchase, just have patience with the assembly.. The box itself is not all that big in size, but it's packed pretty tight and weighs 140 lbs, so you'll need someone to give you a hand if you want to move it. I had the delivery guys bring it directly to my office, so I wasn't bothered. Majority of the pieces are labeled, either with stickers or with marker on the side. Some however are not. The hardware comes in one bag, so you'll have to sort it all out. I used small zip lock bags to keep organized, I'd recommend you do the same. I was lucky, all of the bolts, screws and nails were there, and none of the pieces were damaged in the box. Off to a good start.

Assembly:
I've had previous experience in putting together furniture, so I'm not new to this kind of endeavor. I found the assembly to be fairly simple and straightforward. In fact, I was actually surprised that I didn't need any assistance from my wife. So yes, you can puzzle it together on your own. Just take your time, lay out the pieces beforehand and make sure they're labeled, read ALL of the instructions, and follow them to the 't'. I did that, and everything was going great. I was about 4 hours in on this project, and getting down to the end, all I needed to do was put the drawers together, attach the rails, and slide them in. That's when the fun began. The way those drawers are designed, the holes for the rails on the sides are pre-drilled symmetrically so you can attach the face of the drawer to either side of the box. The instructions don't specify which side is the front, it's basically your choice. Well, needless to say, apparently those holes were pre-drilled incorrectly in one direction, the side I chose. The bottom drawer ended up leaning to the right, the top one was leaning to the left. It took me a couple hours of adjustment before I realized it just wasn't going to work. So I took the rails and the face piece off, and reversed the sides. To my surprise everything now lined up horizontally, I just now had to adjust the fitment vertically, which wasn't a big deal. So if you run into the same issue, keep this in mind and save yourself some time.

Made in Mexico. Manufacturer style number: 7270076 Please keep in mind that I am a single mother (not a handy man or Bob the Builder) while reading this review. This desk took me (and only myself) about a little over an hour to completely put together. I found the instructions easy to understand because I can follow picture diagrams fairly well. I'll admit, some parts made did confuse me a bit, but after reading over it once more, I understood. I felt warned when I read previous reviews on this product, but went ahead and bought the desk for the low price anyway, and I do love it. It's very sturdy, which I didn't expect at all. It also has a very nice and modern look to it. It's also quite heavy. I do believe it is a good buy and would recommend this to anyone who has been eying it like I was
My fiance put this together and he said it took him 2.5 hours to do it, but he's pretty handy when it comes to putting things together. He said it wasn't too bad, but not a walk in the park either.

I like the desk - it's somewhat difficult to find a decent desk with shelves, a hutch, and a drawer for less than $100, so the price was just right for my graduate student budget. My previous "desk" was simply a table from IKEA, and although the table was about 20 inches longer than this desk I feel more organized and less cluttered now that I have a drawer and shelves. The little hutch top is perfect for my 19" monitor, my docking station, and my computer speakers; I put my laptop underneath the hutch, my keyboard on the shelf and I still have plenty of work space plus room for pencil cups or whatnot. I would advise that you buy a separate printer stand if you want ample space, though; I did and I'm really glad I did.

There are two downsides. Number one, the desk sides/corners are *sharp*. I wouldn't put this anywhere near running kids. Just the edge of the desk top is pretty sharp, so if you're leaning on it to do work, scoot far up. The other downside is the height. I'm only 5'2" and I have a task chair with a pneumatic lift. At the lowest setting, I can put my legs under the keyboard shelf if I'm sitting with them straight out in front of me. I prefer to fold my legs up in my chair or cross them while I work, and that doesn't fit so well under the keyboard shelf, so I feel like I have to sit way too far back from my monitor in order to type comfortably. I could remedy that by putting the monitor on the desktop, I suppose, but this set up is much more convenient when I want to unplug my laptop and go, so...

Also, I just got it about a week ago. It's still intact, but I don't expect to last years and years. Like I said, I'm a graduate student on a budget, so this is just for the next 2-3 years while I finish my doctoral program.
I ordered two of these so my husband and I could have matching desks. They arrived prior to the delivery estimation which was awesome. He put them both together and this took approximately 4 hours total. They're super cute and clean looking and the drawer is large enough to hold legal pad sized documents. I would definitely recommend them to people looking for an easy way to spruce up their computer area. I do have a couple of things to note: You need to be home when they deliver them as they require a signature. (We made this mistake on the first delivery try.) Also, it should be noted that the largest person in my household is 5'7" and 125lbs and I am just hitting the 5'3" 115lbs marker. When using these desks our legs fit underneath, but just barely. I have to sit back a bit if I want to cross them underneath me. So perhaps this would be a better purchase for tweens and the vertically challenged.

All in all, a great buy for the money especially with the free shipping.

Update 11 Months later: Although the construction of the desks has held up well to constant, daily use- I'm sad to report that these desks are like Gizmo. Never Get Them Around Water. Even the slightest condensation from your glass will cause the top to ripple and the black coating to come off. Although I'm still pleased with them for the price, I would caution anyone with children or a penchant for beverages at the computer to think carefully.

should i buy Gascony Desk reviews

The desk came well packaged, the external protection was a bit beat up, but nothing in the box was harmed. Two hours plus to put it together, and the instructions are a bit difficult to follow, but can be figured out. No real wood in the desk, and the drawer bottoms are cardboard, but are pretty sturdy. As long as I don't spill water in them, they should be OK. The drawers are on very smooth glides, and the assembled desk looks very nice. The package includes some extra parts and a touch-up pen. All in all, I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend it to a friend.
This desk takes a little time and patience to assemble. However, in the end this is a fine looking piece of furniture. All parts were included, adequate instructions, good shipping protection and excellent hinges on the doors. Drawers fit and slide nicely. Highly recommended.
First of all, this desk looks really nice and has all the features that I wanted in a desk. It has large drawers, an open space on the upper-right below the top to place things that can still be easy to grab yet don't take up desk space. It is a really nice design in the layout respect. Looks-wise, The desktop is a rich brownish (not good at explaining colors) wood that contrasts the black nicely while still matching with the black-theme of the room that it is in. The handles on the drawers are very stylish (rustic looking) and the drawers are butter-smooth.

The one MAJOR downfall is that the wood is NOT treated. This results in 2 issues. First, the desktop bubbles up. I use it as a surface for my computer's mouse and if I run my hand across the area that I use it in, it feels rough with small bumps throughout. However, there are other areas that are unaffected. The only thing I did in that area was use a computer mouse, so it is a little odd. I am also a habitual coaster-user, yet I have noticed one ring from a cup that I must have placed down very briefly. This isnt very noticeable and you'd have to run your hand across the desktop or look at it from an angle to notice. I use a wireless laser mouse and it tracks perfectly on the surface (well any surface) so I couldn't knock it to 3 stars because of that. The second problem you will run into is that the edges of the opening for your desk-chair get worn pretty quickly. This results in an unsightly exposed area where you rub up against it often.

I am not a carpenter or wood-expert but I do respect wood and use coasters, pledge, etc so I knocked it to 4 stars because of the wear issues I mentioned. I do not know if you can treat it someway, but if you can definitely hit the corners that you will be rubbing against a lot as well as the entire top area.

I have owned this desk for about 7 months. If I wanted it to last a couple of years I feel that I would have to pain the corners black that are worn down and exposed.I would purchase this product again if I had the chance, probably with the consideration of treating it with some type of protectant. It is definitely a classy looking desk and has great styling, coloring, and layout-features that make it a great buy. I ordered this for my girlfriend so she would have a desk to put in her new apartment. It took about 2.5 hours to put together by myself, but that time could have been cut down quite a bit with a second person. The instructions are easy enough to follow for the most part. Two or three of the diagrams are a little difficult to tell the orientation of certain pieces but with most of the pieces having holes already drilled it wasn't hard to figure out. I was a little concerned about stability putting the desk together but the final product is sturdy. Still I would not recommend trying to push or drag this desk on the floor it should always be picked up when moving. It's also quite a bit heavier than I would have expected, most def. not something you want to carry up 3 flights of stairs to your girlfriends new apartment. I've had this desk for about a month and so far I'm satisfied. I like the design. It's spacious, it looks nice, and the drawers are convenient. However, there were a few problems. First of all, it's kind of a hassle to build it. The instructions ask you to do multiple things in each step, and it's easy to miss stuff. The other complaint I have is that the wood is very flimsy and cheap. When we put in the screws it sounded like the wood was going to disintegrate! It chips very easily...mine had a few chips even before we took it out of the package! I guess that is why they include little paint bottles in the package...but overall these flaws are not so noticeable. Once it is built, it is sturdy enough that I can drop textbooks on it and place my HD monitor on it without fear. I recommend this desk to anyone who is careful enough to keep it in one piece. I ordered this desk as it looked perfect for what I needed and it also looked like an easy assembly. The packaging it came in was torn and damaged. Also, luckily I hired two men to assemble the desk, one who is quite familiar with this type of work and I was told that the instructions were very complicated and it was difficult to assembly. It took them 3 1/2 hours. One piece of the desk had the black chipped off in about a 1 inch diameter, but I let that go since it is at the bottom and I was told I would have to return the entire desk and receive a new one rather than replace this one piece. I was definitely not going to do that since I would have had to pay, yet again to have the desk assembled and would risk possibly worse damage in the next shipment. Other than this, I like the look and hope it holds up - it has a 5 year warranty which I have not had a chance to read, but I sincerely hope it covers everything other then misuse. For the price this desk is not bad and pretty much what I needed. Smaller size with a couple drawers and a slide out keyboard tray. Once all put together it is pretty sturdy and
functions well. BUT getting to that point was the problem. I tracked it's shipment and it took about 10 days to get from the east coast to the west coast with about 6 stops along
the way. That is 6 loadings and 6 off loadings. The packaging is about good enough to ship down the street, not across country. (And I am guessing it was manufactured overseas
some where so add in that shipping too) Thin outer box and very little styrofoam cushion. The box was all torn up and one corner crushed. I expected the worse when opening it
up but found the only major damage was to the desk top in the back corner. I needed this desk asap and with the damage in the back corner decided it wasn't worth sending
back and waiting another 2-3 weeks for a $160 desk. The instructions were written in 3rd world english and not very clear and lacked detailed illustrations. Being somewhat handy
I finally figured it out but needed to use some of my own screws and such as the supplied parts were not complete. I managed to get it put together and it all works. Too bad it
took about 5 hours and a lot of frustration to get to that point.

should i buy Shoal Creek Computer Desk with Keyboard Tray Finish reviews

409936 Finish: Jamocha Wood Features: -Computer desk.-Flip-down molding reveals slide out keyboard and mouse shelf with metal runners and safety stops.-Made in USA. Options: -Available in jamocha wood or oiled oak finish. Assembly Instructions: -Small drawer with patented T-lock assembly system.-Assembly required. Collection: -Shoal creek collection. Warranty: -Manufacturer provides 5 year warranty. After reviewing several Shoal Creek desk options, I settled on the smaller version. Mind you its still a good sized desk when fully assembled. Its well made and you shouldn't have any problem putting it together- assuming you read all the instructions, inventory all the items for assembly and ensure no damage during delivery. The drawers were a little tricky to put together, so take your time. I strongly suggest you inventory and seperate the nuts, bolts etc it makes assembly much easier. (Note not all the items are labeled, so the pre inventory will help you identify the correct pieces from the pictures). While my original review stated that the desk came with damage and the keyboard drawer didn't fit and essentially became decoration, I will say this of the company. They immediately contacted me about the damage and offered to replace it to ensure satisfaction. THAT is amazing customer service. I don't think of the 100s of things I've bought and reviewed on Amazon that I've ever had a response like that. I will say I'm definitely impressed and the desk is still a nice desk albeit the damage, but the company obviously strives to make sure it's customers are happy. You can't knock that! This is a great desk for the price! The desk top came damaged, so I went on the manufacture's website, and ordered a new top (completely free) with no problems. One of the options to choose online is that it was damaged during shipping. I was very impressed with the level of customer service and the ease of getting the piece that I needed. The new top shipped the next day. I wouldn't hesitate at all to order another Sauder product just for the customer service!

The desk itself is heavy, and a very nice desk. I didn't have any problems with the drawers, and it took about 2 hours to put together by myself. It does come in a lot of pieces, but the directions are pretty straight forward. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase! The item arrived with all the parts, however, the instructions referenced some parts that were supposed to be marked, but weren't, which made assembly a little difficult. It took two of us about three hours to assemble the desk. The first step of the instructions is to separate all the hardware, definitely take the time to do that, it will help during assembly. I put all the different types of hardware in plastic sandwich bags and marked the bag with the item number. As others have mentioned, the back is unfinished particle board, but that doesn't bother me since it's against a wall. The desk looks very cheap once assembled - the drawers hang crooked and there are large gaps. I realize it's not a high quality desk, but it definitely shows. If you just want a cheap desk and don't really care about quality or how it looks, then this desk will do. But if you're looking for something that will look like a higher quality piece of furniture, then you probably want to keep looking. There are hundreds of pieces and not all are labeled clearly. At various times I found the particle board splitting easily when I tried connecting parts together. With wood glue and a couple of frustrating hours to put everything together the desk might end up working out for you, too. It's functional and looks good once it's built, but this desk's cheap materials and particle board did not hold up on their own. Buyer beware! This desk has been a pain every step of the way. The desk wasn't shipped by the date stated, they shipped it to the wrong address, the package was missing the drawer bottoms, and the corners were chipped in transit. When the shipping company sent me a survey to review my order I vented. I received an immediate call from a rep (finally- a highlight!) who offered to ship replacement parts. I researched the shipping company later- I didn't realize it wasn't Amazon when I ordered and they have a terrible rep. Lots and lots of customer complaints about damages and restocking fees and fees for shipping of replacement parts. I accepted a partial ($17.00) refund instead of the parts but I have yet to see that. The desk looks great in the photo and the price is right but the quality and the amazing amount of hassle make it a fail for me. From previous ratings, we understood to carefully follow all the directions of assembly for our new Sauder Shoal Creek desk. It worked out beautifully, even when it came to the drawers and drawer hardware. This item was delivered sooner than expected lots of the pieces where not labeled ,but if you read the instructions there is no problemm putting this table together, first make sure that You have all the pieces that are in the booklet sort them out and everything else will bbe a breeeeze. i love it and i would recomend this table, everything fits like a puzzle, ITS WORTH THE MONEY. I received this desk with 8 pieces damaged due to extremely poor packaging.

I called Sauder who at first was reluctant to replace all the parts and suggested I contact the seller to receive a new desk. After speaking to another representative at Sauder, they overnighted replacement parts. Unfortunately 1 of the 8 parts (the desk top) is damaged yet again. It looks like someone took a chisel to the corners of it. I will be calling them tomorrow and hopefully they can provide a replacement for the replacement part. If so I'm really hoping its not damaged again or I will have $180 worth of damaged desk pieces.

The desk pieces themselves look very nice and it seems like this desk will look great assembled, however I still don't have what I payed for. This has been an extremely frustrating purchase. If you are thinking of buying this desk, I would strongly advise against it. I just had this desk delivered yesterday. Yes, the box is VERY heavy. I had to have my apartment staff help get it upstairs to my place. The desk comes completely disassembled. It seems daunting to have to put it together, but I was surprised at how relatively easy it was to assemble. Some of the part weren't labeled, but it doesn't take rocket science to figure out what went where. All of the pieces and hardware fit together perfectly, and the instructions were very precise and easy to read. Just like all of the other reviews, plan to spend about 2-hours putting it together. If you follow the directions, the desk will be strong and sturdy. I didn't have any damaged pieces in the shipment. But that may have to do with how it's handled by the delivery service during shipment. Overall, I'm very pleased with this desk. The Sauder desk arrived before the guarantee date and although the shipping box had a crushed corner, there was no damage to the product inside since it was well-packaged. The box was left at the door, and it really takes two people to handle this because of how much it weighs.

It also took two of us to put it together which is what the manufacturer recommends. The parts were not all as well-labeled as they could be, but the descriptions in the direction booklet were more than adequate to figure out what was what. All the parts were there. They are well constructed and fit well. The step by step directions could hardly be better. It took two of us a little over two hours to put together.Don't buy this desk unless you're putting up up against a wall. The entire back of this desk is unfinished, yellowish particle board. We bought this desk b/c it appeared nice and was a great price for a simple desk. However, we don't have a good wall to put it up against, and now I have to stare at the horribly ugly particle board everyday. It would be perfect if they just finished the back of the desk....good desk, if you're putting it against the wall. Wish Amazon or the seller would have noted that!
