I shopped all over for this type of Computer Desk. This is a Great Value
for the desk here at Amazon. Several other stores wanted more for
shipping than the cost of the item, which is non-sense. When I saw the
price here at Amazon I knew I had found a bargain. I have had this same
model of desk for several years. I bought this one for my son. The
construction of this desk is excellent. It is very sturdy and saves a
lot of space by being a tower desk. The wood parts are made of particle
board covered with a Formica surface. The only improvement would be to
have made the desk out of solid wood. This of course would have
increased the cost 10 fold.
The legs are adjustable with screw out
feet which allows one to level the desk easily. The pull out shelf for
the keyboard works smoothly. It would help if a lock had been made on
the pull out for the keyboard as there is a tendency for it to want to
slide in. By pulling the shelf out all the way and drilling a small hole
on each side of the shelf so a small pin or screw can be inserted it
stops all motion of the slide out. If you have need to save a lot of
space and want a very well made desk then this is the desk for you. By
the way I found the instructions very easy to read and I put the desk
together in less than an hour. A screwdriver and the alen wrench which
comes with the desk is all that is needed to put it together. As usual
Amazon is a money saver for quality stuff.
This desk arrived with a total of eight missing parts. Customer service
via telephone had me on hold for so long I gave up (tried calling
several times throughout the day). Emailing customer service generated
no response.
I ended up welding this thing together and fabricating my own parts to replace the missing ones.
I recommend this if you have extensive metal working skills and can handle frustration. Note the sarcasm.
This desk is the right size for a home office. It's very easy to
assemble and it's beautiful. I aboslutely recommend this desk for
everyone.
This is a great desk for the price. The color is cherry so if you're
looking for something lighter, I would look elsewhere or contact the
seller before purchasing to confirm. I wanted a desk that could hold
everything, be able to write at it when I wanted AND not take up too
much space in my guest room. The shipping was fast and damage free.
this thing is great. you couldn't beat the price of this thing. went
together without issues. i only wish the keyboard tray had a lock to
keep it pulled out
The corner dimension on the second image is misleading. When this unit
is placed into a corner, the edge of the main desktop extends
approximately 37.5" from the corner. The 24.75" dimension is of the
desktop itself. In a re-read of the product description, I note it gives
the corner-to-edge dimension of 37 inches.
I had planned to use
this unit in a corner where I had 36" maximum space on one side. I
thought I was safe with the 24.75" dimension in the diagram. Instead,
the desk overhung a doorway, preventing a door from opening. I had to
place the desk in a second, less desirable location.
Functionally,
the desk is exactly what I needed. The PC tower, power strip and
Comcast router fit on the bottom shelf. The top shelf holds the monitor
and the next shelf up holds a Canon Pixma printer with paper in the
paper feeder. Speakers are placed on either side of the printer. The
topmost shelf holds spare printer paper and ink cartridges. This tower desk is exactly what I thought it would be. I almost went
with a cheaper desk to save money but I really wanted this one. I am so
glad I did not settle. Easy assembly and the look is perfect.
I didn't really like putting the Studio RTA A-Tower Corner Wood Computer
Desk with Hutch in Pewter and Cherry together, but it works great and
fits into my small office corner.
This desk assembles easily and is a great looking combination of wood
and metal. It came in great shape and went up in less than half an hour.
If you need to fit a computer in the corner of a room, but don't want
the desk to dominate the room.
I usually don't leave review, but this time I just felt to do so. The
desk itself is very good construction and design, but the colors
disclosed on the picture are wrong. It shows nice cherry wood with
silver poles, but I received dark cherry wood with black poles that is
completely off my room design. I tried to return the item, but the
seller Cymax told me that this is the color and I can return it with
paying shipping two ways and processing fee that comes up like 50% of
the cost or I can donate the item. So, if you planning to buy this desk,
watch for the color!
Have had this for a good several months now and i love it. it's sturdy,
and lots of space. I put my printer and external drive on the middle
shelf, and other misc items like paper on top.
Only downside i'd see is that the desk edge is a bit 'sharp'? Not that it would cut you or anything, just isn't smooth.
I totally recommend this desk. Was easy to assemble, just pay attention to the directions and you'll be fine.2 factors of concern. The color, "cherry," is very dark, accurately
shown in the customer photos uploaded here, not at all like the lighter,
brighter color tones in the stock photos that show up all over the
internet!!! If you are coordinating the furnishings in a room, don't go
by the stock photo!
Also important, to me, is the desk
construction with a hard, "sharp," edge. If you like to rest your
forearm on the desk edge, you may find the desk edge to be very
uncomfortable, leaving a dent in your skin. The sharp edge may present a
genuine obstacle for an elderly or ill person with fragile skin that is
prone to bruising and/or skin breakdown.
While it is possible to
make do with a disappointing color, and possible to modify the desk
edge for user comfort and safety, it would be best to know of these 2
factors prior to purchase.
A third factor of concern would be inadequate packaging for shipping.
Our
package did arrive damaged, with significant damage on the end of the
desk top piece. Unfortunately, there was inadequate styrofoam padding
inside the box. The side that got damaged was where the heavy desk top
was protected inside the box only by a thin piece of paper. That could
be adequate for stacking packages on store shelves, but is not adequate
protection for heavy boxes being shipped out individually. Especially
when the afore-mentioned sharp edges are in there just waiting to cut
through the piece of paper, and through the single layer of cardboard
box!
Sauder's response was polite and caring. They sent out a
replacement part ASAP, which was supposed to take 5 - 7 business days
via FedEx ground, and we were instructed to just discard the damaged
piece. That time frame set back the construction of our desk by 2 weeks.
We had to reschedule "assembly day" and re-recruit the strong hands
needed to put this together.
The "pros" on this desk have already
been generously listed by other helpful reviewers, such as the tough,
laminated top surfaces which will resist scratch damage for a long time
to come.
I applaud Sauder for many things, such as good response
to replacing the piece damaged in shipping, but I feel strongly that
they need to do 3 things:
1) provide a stock photo that accurately represents color;
2) re-think the "sharp edge" method of construction, and
3) pad the inside of the box adequately for shipping.
Purchased this desk a year ago to make the best use of a very limited
amount of space. The cherry color is pretty deep. I kind of wish that I
had been able to get it in a Teak color. Anyhow, the desk went
together with pretty minimal effort. Really, it was average time and
effort for a piece of furniture you assemble yourself. Construction is
sturdy enough, although if you place a printer on the shelf (the same
shelf as shown in the picture), you can get quite a bit of movement as
the printer does its thing. Some people might want to anchor it to the
wall for that reason. I like the space (plenty of room) and cords can
be effectively hidden behind the vertical board running down the center.
On a side note, most lighting is centered in the room and a corner
desk (by design) will put your body between your work and lighting. I
was able to mount a 21" florescent bar light under the printer shelf.
It fits completely under the shelf without sticking out, gives great
lighting, and practically looks like it came with the desk. They can't
include everything and keep the cost down, but I would highly recommend
the addition of a light.
One other thing: If you want to put
items on the top shelves, you might consider placing them before you put
the "fencing" up for the two shelves. I use a Canon Pixma printer and
the fencing would have pushed the printer out too far. I never put the
fencing on and honestly can't say that I ever notice it.
