I bought this desk a month ago, but it also has the top part not shown
in this photo. It is made of composite material and is not solid wood.
Yet for the price it is very sturdy and not of the cheaper Saduer fame.
It did take me a long time to put together. 3 hours for top part, and
4 hours for bottom. Being fastidious, I wanted to make sure it was
assembled correctly.
Instructions are pretty good with only a
little confusion on door slider placements. Other than that the
engineering on this was superb. I couldn't believe how accurate every
single hole that was pre-drilled was placed. I mean this is obviously a
computer controlled drilling CNC machine that they spent a lot of time
programming becuase everything was perfect!!!!
For the price you
will not be able to buy a nicer, stronger, more good looking desk.
Forget solid wood desks as they easily cost 4 to 5 times the amount.I bought this desk to use for a home office in which I work from home on
a laptop. This desk is stylish and perfect for the room. It does take
a while to put together 3+ hours, but it was well worth it. The top of
the desk was slightly dented during shipping but other than that it
came in good shape. All in all a good purchase for someone looking for a
stylish desk without spending upwards of 600-800 dollars (I got it for
175 with free shipping).
I was expecting a lower quality product; perhaps loose fiberboard with
very rigid laminate shell. Instead I got a very dense fiberboard with
very rigid laminate shell. It went together very well and is quite
sturdy. The only real negatives: poor instructions (not super poor; I
imagine online videos are quite useful.) One thing I disliked was having
to nail the backing on; it just felt wrong. I think rotating clamps
would have been a better idea (though I do understand that it is
intended to give an illusion of a fully wood desk.) My desktop was
slightly damaged during transit (nothing major) but when notified of
this, Sauder sent a new one free of charge. I have to say that I am
very, very impressed.
I received my order fairly promptly. Unfortunately, several pieces were
damaged during transit. The box wasn't in the greatest condition, so
returning the desk was problematic. I reported the situation to the
seller immediately and went through the trouble of providing pictures of
the damage. I was assured I would receive replacement parts in a few
days. When several days passed with no word from them, I became
concerned and contacted them a second time. They told me the replacement
parts would ship out from the manufacturer that evening and that I
would receive an email with tracking information soon afterward. Haven't
heard from them since. It's been nearly 2 weeks since I first contacted
the seller. I finally broke down and assembled the desk yesterday
because I got tired of walking around the pile of peices, and I need to
be able to use my computer. The damage is clearly visible even from
across the room (the black finish on the desk makes the gouges pop
pretty dramatically), but at least I can use my computer now.
Personally,
I didn't find it terribly difficult to assemble, though it took me a
good hour and a half. The instructions certainly could've been more
clear, but that seems to come with the territory of buying anything that
requires assembly. If not for the damage, the desk would be great.
I must say I DO NOT like this desk. The color looks horrible! If ur
looking for something that looks black, dont buy this cause mine looks
more brown. The reason I am giving it 3 stars is its VERY sturdy &
looks high quality. Had good directions also that were easy to follow.
As of this review, the few pictures on the listing are just too small to judge, especially when looking at comparisons.
Dimensions - if they're somewhere in this listing, I didn't see them.
I can't imagine why the weight is important but not the size of the desk.
Should have put something more in about the construction and materials too.Was not what we expected. Cheaply made - lots of scratches - and
anticipate alot more so we had to go out and purchase a glass top to
keep the desk from scratching. Put together was not bad once you got the
hang of it. Paint job leaves alot to be desired. Pevioulsy owned a
Sauder's desk that was a much better quality. Did not scratch and wore
very well for 20 years. Should have repainted the old one in leiu of
buying this one.
This is a really nice looking, sturdy desk. Dont think you could get
better unless you wanna spend $400 plus for solid wood in a furniture
store (trust me we looked everywhere for a desk) The 1 and only reason i
gave it 4 stars vs 5 is because it is time consuming to put together.
Not thats it's difficult, just takes time. Looking at it now though I am
very happy with the purchase, just have patience with the assembly..
The box itself is not all that big in size, but it's packed pretty tight
and weighs 140 lbs, so you'll need someone to give you a hand if you
want to move it. I had the delivery guys bring it directly to my
office, so I wasn't bothered. Majority of the pieces are labeled,
either with stickers or with marker on the side. Some however are not.
The hardware comes in one bag, so you'll have to sort it all out. I
used small zip lock bags to keep organized, I'd recommend you do the
same. I was lucky, all of the bolts, screws and nails were there, and
none of the pieces were damaged in the box. Off to a good start.
Assembly:
I've
had previous experience in putting together furniture, so I'm not new
to this kind of endeavor. I found the assembly to be fairly simple and
straightforward. In fact, I was actually surprised that I didn't need
any assistance from my wife. So yes, you can puzzle it together on your
own. Just take your time, lay out the pieces beforehand and make sure
they're labeled, read ALL of the instructions, and follow them to the
't'. I did that, and everything was going great. I was about 4 hours
in on this project, and getting down to the end, all I needed to do was
put the drawers together, attach the rails, and slide them in. That's
when the fun began. The way those drawers are designed, the holes for
the rails on the sides are pre-drilled symmetrically so you can attach
the face of the drawer to either side of the box. The instructions
don't specify which side is the front, it's basically your choice.
Well, needless to say, apparently those holes were pre-drilled
incorrectly in one direction, the side I chose. The bottom drawer ended
up leaning to the right, the top one was leaning to the left. It took
me a couple hours of adjustment before I realized it just wasn't going
to work. So I took the rails and the face piece off, and reversed the
sides. To my surprise everything now lined up horizontally, I just now
had to adjust the fitment vertically, which wasn't a big deal. So if
you run into the same issue, keep this in mind and save yourself some
time.
