Blending traditional appeal with updated features designed for today's
busy lifestyle, this handsome computer desk furnishes a stately
presence sure to elevate any living space. The Mission-style unit's
durable birch-veneer desktop sits upon solid Asian-hardwood legs and
glows with a rich brown-mahogany finish, while its recessed paneling and
post-style legs lend a sense of classic refinement. Small, medium, and
large drawers occupy the desk's right storage area, offering generous
space for writing utensils, books, office supplies, and other work or
study essentials. The desk's left side also provides a small utensil
drawer, as well as a larger cupboard perfect for concealing a computer's
CPU. Best of all, the desk's foldout keyboard tray supplies a
comfortable and ergonomic place for a keyboard and mouse, and it closes
neatly out of the way when not in use. Authentic black metal
knocker-style handles and beautiful trim work complete the attractive
desk, which requires some assembly and measures 23-3/4 by 47-3/4 by
30-1/4 inches.
Finished in brown mahogany and constructed with traditional mission
styling, this desk is sure to enhance any room. Multiple drawers combine
with a large cabinet to make this desk the perfect solution for
cleaning up your cluttered work area. The right side features three
drawers that get progressively larger from the top down ending with a
deep drawer with storage for larger items. On the left a small storage
drawer, perfect for pens and accessories, sits directly above the
cabinet that is perfect for holding your computer tower or other large
items. Lastly, the keystone of this desk is the slide out keyboard
drawer with fold down face over the seating area that provides easy
typing access or additional storage. Crafted with solid Asian hardwood
legs and durable birch veneer ensures many years of use and beauty. -
47.75" x 23.75" x 30.25" Tall - Brown Mahogany Finish - Slide out
keyboard drawer - Left side cabinet to hold computer tower - Black
metal "knocker" handles - Assembly required
This desk is a nice product. It comes well-packed and well-labeled.
Assembly is not difficult, but you will want to take your time and
follow directions carefully - lots of little pieces! I would not want to
put this together without a cordless drill/screwdriver. Attractive and
functional desk, good value.
After assembly this desk looks great. It has a solid wood and quality look to it. I like using the desk too.
The color is dark reddish cherry -- not mahogany. People need to know this and the manufacturer should really call it a cherry desk in my opinion.
The problem is the quality of the veneering and finish. It didn't take long to start seeing this. I have a large leather desk pad on top the desk and am careful to always keep it flush or a bit overhanging on the front. After just a few months of using the desk a few hours per day, I can already see the finish wearing off and can actually see where the veneers meet on the front edge of the top. This is a bit disheartening. I don't know what the future holds but that is a problem. The finish scratches off of the desk very easily. I believe all they did was paint a stain/poly combination on the desk. One coat without a protective coat. I am thinking about applying a protective coat of satin polyurethane to help protect it.
The bottom drawer on my desk does not fit into the opening exactly perfectly. It will open and close without a problem but I notice the imperfection in workmanship. This desk looks great - though the color is a bit more cherry than the picture indicates (which I liked). The assembly was not difficult, but very time consuming. I'm very mechanically inclined, and it still took over 2 hours. I can't imagine my wife attempting to assemble the thing - it would have ended up firewood. You literally have to assemble every single piece of it - but the end produce is very well built and looks really nice and expensive. Highly recommend. The size of this desk is perfect for my area. I put it together myself. Directions were easy to follow. Step by step. The only problem I had was sliding the drawers into base. I had to ask a fellow in my building to slide them in for me. I don't know if I didn't have the right slant or what. Now that I'm using it I think it's perfect and it really look good also. I also like the color. One of my reasons for selecting this desk was the opening for the tower as I have a desk top computer. Hope this helps some one thinking about this desk. This desk works great for the rather small place we had to put it. It was farily easy to assemble. The only real drawback are the small drawers. If they went back as deep as the desk is, it would be fine; but they only go back about half way, so are pretty small. Other than that it was a great purchase. I really like the finished product, but putting it together was quite difficult especially since some of the drawer parts had the wrong numbers on them. If it weren't for the fact that my husband is quite handy, I would not have figured out the drawers due to the mislabeling. Attractive and functional desk, good value. The biggest downside to buying furniture online is you that you really don't see what you're getting. Notice the description: SEI Mission Brown Mahogany computer desk. Did it say dark cherry red anywhere in that description? Look at the picture. Does it look like dark cherry red? But that is exactly what I have. That's fine and dandy if you only have one piece of furniture in your study. But not cool if you're trying to match the color of existing furniture. Having invested all this time assembling the desk, I have decided to keep it.
Having said all that, it is a stylish piece of furniture and attractively priced by Amazon. If the color came in as described I would rate it about a 4 or 5. Working alone, it takes patience in putting the desk together. You'll need about two afternoons and knee pads (if you don't have them already). The finish was sturdy enough not to scratch while I was putting it together on a ceramic tile floor. There was a bottom brace missing on figure 6 but it was structurally insignificant. The only tool mentioned was a no. 2 phillips and it was really all I needed.
I thought the assembly went well (although in the back of mind was a review on how hard it was to put together). People have different skill levels. My lesson learned was to inspect the product not only for scratches and missing parts before you start working on it. Inspect the color too!
